rear sway bar issue
Hi Guys, I looked under my 911 and notice that the rear sway bar came off the ball joint. Can I just hammer that in or what's the best way of putting it back in? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks.

What year is the car? If it is a Carrera, I think you might have to buy a new drop link with the two bushings. (kinda figure 8 assembly). If it came out, there must be a reason. Pictures would help as well.

Rear Sway Bar.......
Jinos,
Since you did not mention the year/model of your car, I would guess it's a '77 911 or earlier. The rear drop link for these earlier cars pre-SC are connected to a ball type post. Yes, you could slide it back with some effort (hammer or press it hard). HTH. Tony |
What year is your car? Are you talking about the little ball on the stud protruding from the banana arm? If so, is the bushing still in place in the drop link? If not, you will need to replace the bushing, then reinstall the link to the ball stud. But this is all conjecture, being some important info is needed, such as, the year and if the sway bar set-up is a stock item, not after market.

The times that I have seen ones that have come off, on the type that snap onto the ball stud, the nylon/plastic "cup" has been cracked, or has deteriorated, and need replacing, prior to trying to reinstall. If it is bad, it will just keep popping off. I have found that a LARGE "C" clamp works great, in order to press the bushing cup back onto the ball stud.

I used an oversized 18" screwdriver that fit between the 10mm allen head of the toe adjuster and the back of the drop link cup to pop it back in.

Sorry guys. It's a 74 911 with a 3.0

all suspension parts are stock. Thank you for the quick response! I'll check it out.

If you do need to press in new cup bushings into the link. A vice will work great! Also, as Milt suggested to briefly heat it some in hot water. BUT BE SURE TO HAVE THE LINK POSITION INDEXED CORRECTLY, BEFORE YOU PRESS THE NEW CUP BUSHING INTO THE DROP LINK! It would really suck to have the opening pointed the wrong way.
