I am looking to remove and subsequently replace the front & rear valence and bumpers. Advice and pitfalls for removal woudl be appreciated.
Along with anything I shoudl watch for once they are removed. At the same time I am installing a Carrera tail. Therefore the same goes for removing the rear decklid. Thanks. ------------------ |

Bumpers are easy to get off. The hardest thing is getting to the little 8mm nuts on the accordions on either end. Grease up those hands and go! The front is more of a bear to get back on than to take off with the headlight washer lines and all the turn signal wiring. Valences are easy. Set it all on and align the front valence with the bumper on, then tighten it down and refit the bumper.
On the rear deck, be careful when you install it to close it cautiously while you are aligning it. It will rub below the rear window or hit the sides if it is off alot. Trial and error...you'll get it. Good Luck. Nick. ------------------ _ _ __ _ _ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe nickshu@yahoo.com PCA -- Rocky Mtn. Region |

When I repainted my bumpers and valences a month back the only trouble I ran into was one rust frozen nut on the front valence. The windshield washer bottle had to be removed to get to the frozen nut. Then the clamp that held the bottle on was rusted aswell and I had to cut it off and make a new clamp from a piece of stainless steel. There are only two screws and two nut/bolts that hold the valence on. The bumpers came off very easy little or no rust or corrosion at all. The decklid is as easy as four allen head bolts, unless you have AC then its a little more work but fairly simple. Make a note if there are any spacers used between the decklid and hinges so you get them back in the position they originally came from to get the height correct when the lid is closed. Its all very easy aslong as rust is not a major factor. If you do have rusted nuts or bolts try PB Blaster its a penatrating oil that works well. Worked great on some parts that I never thought would come loose..Hope this helps.....TargaEuro

Either mask up the corners of your new lid, or use cardboard or polystyrene blocks on the corners. This will allow you to "jiggle" the deck about to get the correct fit. Once you've tightened up the deck bolts you can remove the tape/cardboard/polystyrene
