Paint code for Guards Red?
I'm planning on going down to the local auto-body place and getting some guards red paint for a little project. I need to know the paint code for my car (87' 911) does anyone know it?
Should I ask the shop to thin the paint, or do it myself? Thanks :-) ------------------ Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=294 |
if things haven't changed since 74, you should have a metal placard on the drivers side door frame(forward on the hinge side) that gives the paint code for your car.

80K is the code color for guards red. GB83SC |
depending on who mixes it, you will get one of forty different colors of guards red with the same code. gotta be the worst color to match.

Have them match it to the car, not the code |
Great, such positive responses :-) I realize the paint code is on the side of the drivers side door frame. Unfortunately much of that sticker is worn/ripped off. I didn't want just part of the paint code.
I'm painting a rear lower valance that will accommodate my dual outlet exhaust. The color does not have to be as perfect as if it were the hood. I will however, heed the advice given by JW's Workshop and bring the car in to match the paint. Is there any specific brand of paint I should ask for? I should most likely ask for a primer and clear coat at the same time, right? Thanks again, ------------------ Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=294 |
Dan, definitely have the colour matched to the car. A good paint shop should have no problem with this. I don't think you'll need a clear coat on top of the red, but check with the paint shop and be guided with their knowledge.
