i removed this piece in the picture when i did my rs carpet kit, all i did was cut the piece out, then smoothed it out and covered it with the carpet. it looked alot better when the carpet was over it. just my 2 cents...

Beasty,

Your dash looks amazing was it difficult and did you happen to detail this in a post?

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

Are you asking me or Beasty? I did not see a pic of Beasty's dash.
I did not take pictures of the process but can explain it.
I bought a coverlay to just go over the old dash. I did not like the finish of the plastic it looked cheap.
I trimed the lip that goes down at the windshield off of the coverlay so it would lay flat. I then took some yellow glue (don't recall the name but it is what the auto shops use) and brushed it on instead of spraying it to get a good even layer.
I took the vinyl and pre cut it to fit and brushed the glue on it. I let it sit until it was good and tack and started to lay it starting and the ridge above the gauges and worked it out using a heat gun to help it lay down. After that I used some silicone to mount it to the old dash and put some books on it to press it over night.

to make the story funny, I broke the orig windsheild about a week later so it would have been tons easier to do with the dash out or even replace the dash.

Thanks
Phil

Sorry about that!

You Phil.......I've been toying with the idea of doing just as you did by covering a dash overlay. Can a Rookie with average skills and a quick learner pull this off? Love to have some details on your learning curve I've done a search to little avail.

Thanks again,

Scott

Finally an update with some pictures.
I had to replace the windsheild after the debacle on trying to switch trim on both of my cars. I must have been extremely lucky (hard to imagine with how things have went with this car) as the windsheild install was a breeze, did it by myself in about 20 minutes. While the glass was out I painted the lip that the windsheild mounts in so it is good to go for a while.
Here are a couple with the h-4's painted to match.

You can also see the trim has been stripped.

I also decided to dye the interior to black from cork since I recovered the dash.

here is how the engine looked before and now (still some work needed here)

And to finish last week, I installed a new muffler I got from V8 Ranch from the board here.

More to come. The fender hunt has just stalled and it will probably look like this most of the summer.

Thanks for all the feedback and help so far.
Phil

Phil have you had a chance to start on the fenders and hood yet?

The fenders are still sitting in the basement. I am hoping to get it going again after the summer. Right now I only drive to the airport and back so nothing is getting good use as of now.
And the E55, I do miss that car, I never drove it but to be able to was nice. The clk is a weak substitute for it. Glad it went to someone who appreciates it.

car is looking great Phil!

Ok feel like I have been doing nothing, other than spending money to acquire parts. In the market for a painter but here are the parts I have already.

subscribed. Man I miss that fender. Phil, did you get the pics I sent? I'm going to soda blast them all this week.

Doug&Julie 10-27-2008 04:21 AM

So where did you find those fenders? ..other parts?

w21055 10-27-2008 06:20 AM

Erik and I ordered the fiberglass together to save shipping money. Mine is the longhood with short hood frame.
I got one of the Fenders from Shaun on here and another one was on ebay with a crazy high reserve and I was the high bidder with only a couple of bids so I got it for a very reasonable price.

The list of parts needed are down to weatherstrip and that may be bought after the paint. We will start tearing the car down this friday. Even though I like how the dash turned out, I would rather swap the dash for another one so I got one on here.
I got these parts in this week all from Pelican folks so big thanks.

Again thanks so far to everyone who has helped out and supplied parts, it has been pretty fun up to this point running everything down!

awesome Phil, wish I could get all the aluminum trim. Can I buy the other dash? I dont know if I am up for the repair job that mine is going to need.

Also, saw you coming down 20 Friday night. Brings a smile to my face to see these cars on the road. Your car sounds great!

w21055 11-08-2008 06:52 AM

Teaser pics. Got a good bit done as of this morning. I had to wait on my helper to start so Last night we took the front end apart. So far nothing has stuck out as odd, I was fearing some rust or previous damage as we tore the car down but so far very good shape underneath the dirt.

I have multiple colors for the Carrera side script.......just ask. If you see an interesting color I can probably order it and cut it for you.....special orders don't upset us.

w21055 11-08-2008 10:30 AM

Mike,

I will be getting a set of graphics from you shortly.

Front end is mocked up. Went pretty quick, the hood fits great passenger fender fits great, drivers side is not a perfect fit, but should be massaged in.
With the Guards red fender on you can see the difference in my paint and the standard.
