awesome progress, what width rear rim are you running?

w21055 01-08-2009 05:16 PM

Nice to meet you as well Richard. Hope that fender works out and I may take you up on the RA trip!

Thanks for the compliments. the rear wheels are 16X8 and the color is Viper Green. It is paint code 225 from 1972. It looks darker in the pics than it really is.

Thanks
Phil

It's saturday evening, do you have any pics for us? Sure would like to see some....Hope everything is going good on your end, later Richard

w21055 01-10-2009 05:12 PM

Richard,

I have pics but no complete car yet. They are finished with the doors and are spraying them on Monday and the fenders are just about ready to be sprayed. The drivers fender had to have some metal added for the gap at the door.
Fingers crossed they said it would be ready to be picked up next Saturday.

I need some measurements for the drivers mirror now. Plus I have a plan for my extra dash. Started working on it this weekend. I am thinking about molding it to look like a 72 dash. I just need some specs for the speaker grille.

Sorry for the delay, Having internet problems, but it is back at home and the headliner is in, dash is in, had to paint the inside black so that is done. Will post pics when my internet issue is resolved!!

Elombard 01-21-2009 03:22 AM

Did the headliner go well?

w21055 01-22-2009 08:38 AM

Headliner went pretty well, took about 5 hours but I was putting in the new vinyl for the A and B pillars at the same time.
I had to paint the inside black before I could start, still need to paint the floors but the roof and rear deck is done.
Big question for the group.
What do you think about the shifter be mounted above the carpet?

Some updated pics.
On the trailer finally at home, not the best trailer for hauling this size car, worked great just was huge.

Shot of the headliner, some dust from my hands but very happy with how it turned out..

Passenger side shot while the headliner was going it, pretty passenger fender with no Antenna.
http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/k...kj/sdcc295.jpg
New dash and new Prototipo installed.
http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/k...kj/sdcc301.jpg
Windshield new dash installed and new seat test fitted in place.
http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/k...kj/sdcc303.jpg
New vinyl with VIN back in place, this was key for me as I damaged the vinyl when I installed the old coverlay dash that I bought to hold me over until I found another dash.

Old seat versus new seat.

I started the carpet kit last night, hoping my chrome parts are back by the weekend, if so may be able to drive it a little. Have drove it in the neighborhood now. Hoping to make it to the Marietta show first Sunday of Feb.
Very happy with how the paint turned out as well.

Thanks
Phil

Wow. I've been watching from the sidelines and you're doing an unbelievable job. I'm currently backdating the interior of my own 1988 backdate, which makes a HUGE difference when combined with the exterior. If you have any questions or would like to read more about it, the thread is located here:

http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21688&postdays=0&postorder=asc&sta rt=0

While not the final result yet, here's the current interior:

New seats and mats are on the way, but you should get the idea. Great job, keep the pictures coming.

Wow, great progress! I wish I could say the same on mine.

Elombard 01-22-2009 02:07 PM

Looks Awesome, Phil note how Mike did not put the knob in for the locking mechanism. Its totally redundant and a much cleaner look with out it. I am definitely doing the "knob delete" on my next one :-)

Elombard 01-22-2009 02:09 PM

Oh not sure on the shifter on the carpet, the rubber covers the hole really well and you dont want the shifter to move at all or it will add to the sloppy shifting. If you can get the tower down tight give it a shot, you can always go back and cut it out. WOuld be easier to cut the hole in the right spot with out the shifter in place any way.

rattlsnak 01-22-2009 06:07 PM

looks great and im glad hot wheels worked out for you. i only saw it once right after and not again before you took it. what did you do with the muffler?

richard003@wind 01-22-2009 06:39 PM

Phil, I'm IMPRESSED, great job so far. As for the carpet going under the shifter, the look would be nice but you might run into some problems with the shifter like Eric said. Keep up the good work and i'll talk to you soon. Later Richard

Shaun @ Tru6 01-23-2009 07:32 AM

great progress Phil! on the shifter, I would first polish it and then install on top of the carpet if you want to go in that direction. a few folks here have posted polished shifters and they shine up beautifully on a wheel.

w21055 01-23-2009 09:36 PM

Thanks for the input.
I have not done anything with muffler. Will probably go back stock for a while and see if someone can re route the pipes for me.

Mike your car is awesome. I was on the fence about changing out the trim in the dash but seeing yours makes me want to jump on it. I was going to do it all, but did not want to buy new gauges to complete the look, so I sorta backed away from it. I did want to recover the vinyl behind the gauges but after seeing that the steering column had to come down, I figured it was good enough to move on, but I would still like to change out to the aluminum trim like you did.

Carpet is pretty much done and I have to figure out something with the seats. I am 6 foot and feel like a giant in the car as the bracket has me nearly at the sunroof opening.
Started putting in the break my wallet rubber back into the car. Good lord that stuff adds up when you are buying every tiny piece. Got the new rubber sill plates down as well.
Called my chrome plater to get the tracking number (As I was told it would ship out monday) he gets back on the phone and has some story about how the Aluminum was polished instead of chromed so he had to re do it. Shoudl be here by Tuesday, will see.

w21055 01-24-2009 11:22 AM

A couple of pics from this morning.
Interior is done, carpet kit was interesting and I need some feedback on mounting the entire seat belt mechanism on the carpet. Does everyone include the aluminum bracket or just bolt up the seat belt it self. May have to explain with a pic later
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232824629.jpg
All new rubber sill parts. I stayed with black on the aluminum part as I have raw aluminum in the other car and it always looks scratched up.

I am using Worth Stone guard for the fender wells.
