Post Camshaft Oil Line Fittings

Quick question about the connection of the cam oil lines to the motor case (near the fan housing).

Do the ferrule fittings for the cam feed lines require any type of sealant or are these a crush seal? I have seen replacement lines from Stoddard with the ferrule already attached and fixed in place. My replacement lines (OEM Porsche) came without them pre-attached.

Thanks,

No sealants, Kevin. Those little metal bands (sometimes called "olives") are intended to mate with a taper inside the female fitting. Do not overtighten, and check for any leakage with the motor running. If they do weep, tighten just enough to stop the leak.

Thanks Doug.

After removing the old lines, I noticed that the crush fittings were installed in different directions on the two different lines. The old line at the oil sender has the tapered end going into the oil sender block bolt. The old line at the distributor has the straight/non-tapered end going into the adaptor fitting for the motor case. Being that the fittings are the same size, I think they should be installed in the same way.
Seems like the previous installer got lucky?

Neither old line leaked at the fittings (one leaked at the rubber crimp) before I removed them. When I installed the new lines the same way as the old ones were installed, they both leaked- alot. Apparently i'm not lucky. Overtightened or which direction is the correct way to install these crush fittings? Parts diagrams show the tapered end going out towards the connection to be made.

Confused and irritated. Although, if this is the worst outcome after R&Ring the motor, I should be pretty pleased. Always seems to be the little, simple things that I overlook.

Thanks again,
