Post Maintenance - Arizona wrench

If anyone on this board is from Arizona, can you recommend a good 911 mechanic?

I will probably do some work myself, like oil changes, valve adjustments, chip install, etc, but I definately want to know who I should go to if I'm in trouble. At this time, I will probably use the mechanic that did my PPI. Recommendations???

Another question or two for everyone. My car is a 1988 with 20,000 miles. The car has been well taken care of and the 15k service was done about two years ago.

When I got my PPI done, the mechanic said that I should probably get a complete service done in the near future to establish a "baseline" for the car. I assume this means fluid changes, valve adjustments, etc.

Does this sound like something I should get done very soon or can I wait 3 - 5k miles. The car is running like a top. I'm thinking the first time, I should let a wrench do the work, after that I'll do most of this myself. What could I expect to pay for this service? Should I do it myself instead?

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

Find out exactly what your mechanic means by "complete service". Post that list on this board, and let us take a crack at it.

When I bought my car about 8 months ago, the mechanic that did my PPI told me the same thing. I went ahead and did an oil change, and then drove it for 3,000 miles to find all the quirks. During this time I was reading and learning about these awesome cars, so that I could do basic repairs and tune-ups like you described.

Just ask questions if you have any on this board. This board is by far better than any tool in my tool-box, the people are very helpfull.

You don't say where you are located but if you are in Phoenix I can recommend Don Jackson. He and his sons have been in business a long time and have been reasonable for the work I have had performed since I bought my 88 Carrera last summer. Their flat rate is $64/hour, compared to $94/hr for Scottsdale Porsche. The PO (I am the third owner)had most of work on the car done by Stuttgart Southwest in Tempe and they are also very good, according to Don Jackson.

I too have heard very positive things about Don Jackson's shop. There's a place in Scottsdale called Beck's - haven't had any experience with them but they may be worth looking into. Good Luck, Pete
