heater regulators (boxes)
mine always seem to stick - my engine is out (again) so if I am going to replace them, it ought to be now
But I wonder how long they work well - I'd hate to buy a new one and have it start sticking in a few years. And then maybe there is something special I can use as a lube?? I have Boeshield T-9; Swepco Chain Lube, sprayable white grease; Tri-Flow (teflon w/ carrier) and HHS-2000 (Wurth sticky lube). Surely one of those ought to do the trick?? Thoughts?? |
I've never had to lube one, nor have I ever replaced one. I also never drive my cars in the rain, so maybe that's what saves them. Many are over 25 years old, with no problems.
No real idea on the lube. Maybe something that dries out, so you wouldn't smell it every time you use the heater. JR |
Maybe the springs have weakened from corrosion? I replaced the spring on one of my my boxes that liked to stick just a tad open (very annoying with no AC in the summer), and they've worked fine since (knock on wood). They are 20 year old originals. I got a suitable replacement at the hardware store.

- thanks - that is a great idea
