I have several spare stock mufflers and a complete fabrication shop(including CNC machine), so modifications are not a problem. I would like to convert an early dual in stock muffler to a dual out. does anyone know how this is done? I already have the sport muffler diagrams. I'm looking for better sound and a little power. I also have an old rusty muffler that I cut open(can post pictures if needed). Any help would be appreciated.

Kevin,
I too was looking for that sweet sound. I found out that after several attempts with different aftermarket mufflers, I stayed with my stock. However, I had a muffler shop recommend something I never heard of. He cut a square piece out, approximately 6” x 12”, removed the baffles inside, then welded the square piece back. He mentioned he’s done this before for PCA members and he was informed from them, of an 18 to 22 hp gain. I personally don’t believe it but I did notice increased throttle response and a sa-weeeeeeet sound! I did ask him about dual outs and he said it would just increase sound let alone look great. He said all it takes is cutting part of the valance, marking and cutting a hole on the muffler, and fabricating a tailpiece. Here’s a pic of my single outlet. I’ll be adding duals in a couple weeks. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my year is single to single, unlike your dual to single. I know there will be some argument on hp gain for this modification, the only way to tell is a before and after dyno. Good luck. John '81SC Targa |

I like the dual pipes starting on the later 964 Turbos and 993's. I like them coming straight out rather than at an angle. I've never seen a 3.2 with dual straight pipes coming out the rear. That would be awesome.
