Help for bouncing tach

My 70S tach will bounce quite a bit after my shift. When I am running steady it works fine, but then when I sift gears it drops down, bounces way up a few times.

Is there some sort of damper? Bad ground?

Thanks,

No. My tach does two kinds of bounding. First, it bounces like you say. Also, when holding a steady speed, it sometimes wiggles maybe 50-100 rpm. Just occasionally.

Other than that, my gauges are very steady.

One possibility on the early cars is that the tach needle bouncing is a symptom of the points going out.

there is also an internal damper that requires a trip to the speedo shop to repair.

What is this damper of which you speak? I don't have points... Have an 80 3.0L with MSD ignition...

i'm not a tach repairman, so i send them out to north hollywood speedometer to fix them. i don't know what the damper is but they fix it. the ignition points, when old make it jerky, not smooth floating.

Just a blatent plug for North Hollywood...I've sent instruments to them a couple of times, and everything worked out for me exactly as promised.

Sounds similar to the problem a lot of 914 tachs have.
I agree it is the internal dampner. There may have been some posts on the dampner on the 914 list, I don't recall the details, though.
