Commonly Searched Engine Noise

My 85 Carrera started making a very clear rumbling/growling from the engine compartment. This noise could be heard at idle outside the car but more so while inside. Upon searching this and the Rennlist forum, I found many posts point to either the belt or the alternator bearings. I am sure those sources could very well produce this kind of rumbling but if you find the noise to persist even with the alternator/fan belt temporarily removed, check the hard oil line at the back of the car. My oil line had sagged on its hanger attached to the cam chain housing. When it sags, it contacts the right side heat exchanger and that vibration transmits to through the car very clearly. I want to post this so everyone else with this sound can first do a very easy check before suspecting so many awful things like cam chains, intermediate shafts, or any other problems that would really ruin ones day.
