Looks like 1.26 MM for 964 grind. Thats what I set mine to per John Dougherty who did my regrind.

Set mine to 1.26 also!

What year engine?
CR?
Are you keeping CIS?

For my SS 3.2 conversion with CIS, JW recommended 1.4 for the 964 cams which worked really well. :D

1980 US Spec Keeping CIS. cant really afford any other Upgrades unless there are some easy/cheap ones after this.

also do you or anyone else sugges I use fresh rockers? these are new cams from Dougherty.

thnaks

Rockers can be refurbished; I think Camgrinder does this. Send him an E-mail.
It may involve new bushings and a polish of the mating surfaces.
Depending on wear, you may be able to re-use the rocker shafts; they wear on one side only, look for the marks.
I turned mine 180 deg to get a new wear-surface.
How many miles on the engine?
Make sure that the shafts are centered meaning: equal amount into the respective sides and torqued at 13-15 ft-lbs.

Go around 3x for the cam timing: :)

Yes, use refurbed rockers, John does this very well-priced, IMO.

Why not just ask John what he has for the timing??

Gunter 02-25-2008 08:01 AM

When you check out John's website, you'll notice that he wants additional info before suggesting a final overlap.
1.26 mm 964 profile would be for a 3.6 liter but he may suggest something slightly different when using a 964-grind for a 3.0 with CIS.

Also, he lists the overlap for SC's as 1.4 - 1.7 mm but the earlier '78-'79 (930/04) have an overlap of 0.9 - 1.1 mm.
I am sure he knows this.

Read his info about refurbishing rockers; good stuff!

Send him all required info and then go with his recommendation re: overlap and let us know what he says.
One more thing:
Do not feed new chains onto old chain sprockets (The ones on the I-shaft)
Go here:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/200267-new-chains-without-new-sprockets-read.html

Either use new chain sprockets with new chains or re-use the old ones together.

Have fun. :)

I emailed JD and no response. anyone know any better way to get a hold of him?

thanks
Chris
