Dumb brake question

Hi guys.

does any one recognise these?

and will they fit my euro 75 S under 6by 15 fuchs.

Oh and if you are still being patient what rotors?

By the way they are 4 pot fronts and rears with two different piston sizes in each pair they are made by Brembo and are numbered:

Rear
20.4672.00
20.4673.00

Front
20.4691.00
20.4692.00

I cannot identify them from Bills excellent resource but I may be being dumb again:confused:

C'mon guys someone must recognise these. I need to identify rotors to fit.

They look like either 964 or 944 calipers, correctly adapting them to a 911 is a chore.

Dantilla 02-25-2008 04:26 AM

I'm not certain, but they look like they are from a 944 Turbo. That car came with 16" wheels to clear them.

Bill Verburg 02-25-2008 04:36 AM

964 brakes on a 911

the front calipers need to be converted to radial mount, the rear need to have the throats widened and mounts redrilled.

16" wheels are needed, 911 7s will need a thin spacer in front.

Theses are both radial mounted so no conversion issues other than hole centres and hub centre off set. There is more to come from this thread yet.

They look just like the calipers on my (now defunct) 951. Those "bails" make changing pads a snap. Not worth try to fit to your '75 IMHO.

I beg to differ with you. Both sets are axial mount which is fine in the back, though the holes need to be filled and redrilled for 3" 911 trailing arms

Bill Verburg 02-25-2008 05:39 AM

Just a FYI, this is a radial mount 993 front http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1203950298.jpg

This type is what you want for the front

Calipers

Bill, brilliant , I was confusing radial and axial. The calipers I have are both axial.

I can succesfully modify the front to fit the strut ears with top hat bushes fitted into over sized holes bored in the calipers drilled off centre to pick up the original strut mount bolt pitch. I have trial fitted under 6 by 15 fuchs and it all fits . So just rotors to sort.
The rears are harder but I have today designed and drawn up a mounting system to use the original alloy radius arm mounts. It will require slotting out the caliper mounting feature and is yet to be trial fitted but I am hopeful. Again I will have to sort rotors.

The calipers are from a 944 turbo or 944S2.

If this is succesful I will post some pictures and details of the parts I have designed and am having made. Thanks for all your help couldn't do it without you guys.

Why bother? yes, I know that the caliper holes can be hogged out to bolt to the 3.5" front strut mounts but what are you getting from it? The Only area that needs improvement is thermal management. That means that you want to keep operating tmps as low as possible, one way to do that is w/ bigger rotors. Bigger calipers on the same smaller rotors just put more heat into them more quickly.

If using Carrera 24mm rotors use Carrear calipers or if youm ust go for bling Boxster calipers.

Same in the back w/ Carrera rotors use Carrera calipers or again if you must Boxster calipers.

the 964/944 calipers all want 28mm or better rotors.

haasad 02-27-2008 08:42 AM

Bill 28 mm rotors now provisionally sorted . I only need to design and fab some rotor mounts. I take and understand your point about thermal efficiency . That why the rotors where such an issue. I have carried on with trhis conversion because the calipers were free and so is maching and design . This would clearly not always be true for everyone.

I'll keep you kind folk informed of progress good and bad.

thanks

Just found this thread. I know it's very old, but for the edification of others who stumble on it: Those appear to actually be 928 calipers. They look identical to the 951 units, but the piston sizes are smaller.

Nope, not a chance that they are 928.
the front of 928S4 used a version oif this caliper set, these are actually off a 964t but the only difference was the extended mounts on these and that 964 is a leading mount configuration while 928 is a trailing mount(trailing to leading or back is just a matter of swapping the feeds and bleeds).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296858111.jpg

there were 2 versions of the 928S4 early versions had the old style seals and 35/42mm pistons the '89 up versions used 36/44 and the new style seals

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1296858521.jpg

the rears in the original pic could be 928 rear as the 928 rear and 944 rear are the same caliper
