If you want a fiberglass tail TRE and MA Shaw have some good reviews.

After meeting Dave of TRE I'd say his work is very good.

All good pointers, but I am also interested in knowing if anyone has used the Performance Parts piece. 299.95 is an awfully low price point, and it made me wonder just what you get for that price.

It'll never go on my 82 SC but you know, inquiring minds and all that.

Cheers,

MA Shaw gets theirs from Getty. Why tread into the unknown. $300 is not an insignificant amount for a ?

Their first go, at least, on Fuchs repros didn't go so well....

Ed you have a duck on the targa right? If so who made your duck tail?

Based on reputation I don't think the TRE duck sounds like a bad deal for $399. a lot more than $100 worth of bodywork can go into a crappy fiberglass part.

I have the Getty...payed about $400 as well, no bodywork to speak of was needed, excellent gelcoat and finish.

It's kind of difficult to assess the current quality of aftermarket fiberglass since product suppliers change as well as the quality of their product. Molds do wear out after awhile. I purchased a PP ducktail some years ago and had to spend many hours modifying it (13-15) to fit and prep for paint. I understand the product from Getty and TRE is pretty good - owners report panel fitting wasn't much of an issue. This doesn't preclude an equivalent product from PP, but consistent quality may be a bouncing ball.

I have a Performance Product ducktail. I paid considerably less than $299 for it since I bought it a few years ago during their Christmas blowout. Bottom line, I got what I paid for.

I had it professionally fitted and painted. The fit wasn't all that good. I have seen one other ducktail that I believe was purchased from MA Shaw and it seemed to have smaller gaps all around. If I had installed it myself, I don't think I would've kept it. The body shop that did the work had to shave off some glass at one corner and lay more glass at another corner to make it lay square.

I hope I answered your question.
