Stump the Chumps
Not getting fuel to the injectors
Did several things to the CIS fuel system (2.7L CIS 1976) in hopes of better performance. Well . . . better performance has now turned into NO performance. What I Did - Replaced many vacuum hoses - Replaced Injector Seals - Replaced Accumulator - Replaced Fuel Pump - Tested CSV (cold start valve) and cleaned - Boiled out Fuel Tank and Replaced What I've Tried - Tested fuel relay - Proper fuse in - Lifted up on ASP (air sensor plate) which leads me to believe fuel pump works but that someting in the back is serving to block the fuel from getting to its destination. I hear a lot of gurgeling (sp?) like there is some leak in the suction. No fuel is spitting out the exhaust like before when the fuel plunger was stuck though. Saw a beautiful 2.4L on the road today. Man . . . that just makes this suck even more. |

ok, i will play. you were not clear. when you lifted the ASP, what happened? did you feel resistance? or was it almost weightless, like a perfectly balanced teeter totter? do you hear the fuel pump buzzing?

I felt/feel resistance when I pushed up on the sensor plate. I hear the fuel pump buzzing.

Don't have a CIS, so not sure how the plumbing works, but any chance you reversed the in/out hose connections on the fuel pump when you replaced it?

Thanks for thought Jim, but no. Driver side hose (soft) goes is what delivers gas to the pump, hard line goes from the pump and delivers fuel. I'm 98% positive this is correct.

so when you lift the air sensor bar, do you have an injector pulled out and stuffed into a jar? you know you get zero fuel at the injector? i always start at the farthest point downstream and work backwards.

No fuel downstream.
Exactly. All injectors are pulled out an in jars. No fuel. Next point upstraem would be fuel distributor? I'm worried because I can hear fuel in the back engine bay kind of slurrping. I do not smell anything . . . so I suppose that's good. Any thoughts? Thanks for going down the rabbit hole with me.

out of gas? gauges don't always tell the truth. jump 12V to the 30 terminal of the fuel pump relay and see if the pump runs. it can also run and not pump.
