Post DEATH TO MICKEY AND HIS ILK!

God, I hate mice. They are in my car ('85 targa) and I can't seem to get rid of them. They are in the ventilation system, they are chewing my tool kit bag, they are leaving seed shells and droppings everywhere. How are they getting in? How can I keep them out? Any ideas? I think I might try leaving d-con in the car at night. Or perhaps a neutron bomb, little collateral damage but the radiation might finally do the job. Or do I just have to sell the car and start over.... Any help here greatly appreciated.

GOat43,
One thing that might be good to check it your heater hoses going to your heat exchangers, if they are bad the mouse might be getting in there.

My car sat in a crawl space for over 12 years, I found allot of mouse evidence, it was everywhere glove box, shifter tunnel, heater hoses etc...

I feed a small shop vac hose thru the tunnel and the heater tubes to clean them out, compressed air also works but makes more of a mess.

Good luck.

Goat, don't poison them! If you do they will go off somewhere inaccessable in your car and die! Use traps.

Buy a big old cat and put him in your car at night.

I have a big old cat, but he spends all his time decimating the squirrel population (which fortunately has not found its way into my car yet!) I can't seem to convince him that it's his job to eat mice. The warning on poison is well taken. Anyone ever try an ultrasonic repeller?

I have heard mice don't like the smell of mothballs/crystals (who does?). Try that to at least drive them out. You may want to make SURE they didn't build a nest in or around the cylinder heads which can cause severe heat buildup due to no airflow.
Good Luck,

Red face

hmm,

i would honestly say that one of those "car capsules" would really pay off for you. they are not that expensive and the mice can't get into your car.

they sell them all over the place. the ones that inflate with air to keep dust out might be the best bet.

good luck!

Those pests are a real pain. Here is what has worked for me. NO FOOD IN THE GARAGE! If a car is headed for storage, no food to be eaten in car, no spilled colas, nada, nothing! Superclean. Those $%@* smell through anything. Then I use a car bag. No matter how well the bag is sealed, if there was any kind of food in the car, they will chew their way through the bag!

I don't even put poison bait in the garage. I do put a small sections of pipe around the outside perimeter of the garage loaded with bait. I prefer the bait bars that look like granola bars.

Unless your heater is fully on, the suckers climb right through the little triangular openings on the heater valve. Close the entrances to their subway system!

Had the same problem in the Westphalia. There is always food in there. A few traps and a couple of evenings takes care of the problem easily.P-nut butter is a good tip.

Had a mouse in my westfalia a while back. I did the poison, he went in the little closet, but fortunately died on my wife's underwear, not mine. So is there a support group or something for those of us who can put a my other car is a 20 y/o 911 bumper sticker on the VW van?
