Sunroof Repair - '85
I have just removed my sunroof and replaced the cables - one was broken. The Pelican tech article was indispensible to the process (thanks Wayne). I posted some comments and observations on the Tech Articles Discussion forum. Since that forum isn't too frequently visited, I thought I'd alert any interested parties to my post. Check it out if you're thinking about tackling this job.

Thanks, Island. I checked out your comments and see that you took a different approach - glue the cable back into the slider rather than replace the whole thing. I replaced both cables so that I hopefully don't have to worry about this again for a while!
I don't know if your SC differs from my Carrera, but the mods to the Pelican cables are minimal. You need to unwind the felt, which is easy, and then file down the sliders on the two bits that fit into the track sides. No great precision is needed; just make it fit! My roof is back in operation, thanks in no small part to Pelican's technical resources. Thank you thank you! ------------------ Roger '85 Carrera 3.2 Coupe aka "Sputterbug" http://sputterbug.com |

"glue" . .that sound suspicious. . . in kind of a kindergarten safety pencil and paste sort of way.
![]() My experience with epoxies, composite and pull-out strength of fibers gives me plenty of confidence in the ability for the epoxy to secure the cable another 20 years. Indeed the SC differs from the newer Carrera’s. The dealer told me I would need the different slider channels (which they only had one side in stock) to accommodate the updated cables. My SC is unrestored with very few updates, and there is something I really like about that which drives me to fix rather than replace. . .especially when the replacement parts are of a different design. |

Roger,
I, too, broke the little plastic clips that form the hinge for the wind deflector. Thankfully Stoddard sells them for $2.06 each. Part number is 911.564.123.00. Chris. |

Great! Thanks Chris. I'm going to check with Pelican first before going elsewhere. They have many parts that aren't listed on their web catalog.
My clips have snapped again, but the geometry of the way the wind deflector sits tends to keep it in place anyway. I Rube Goldberg'd it with some black electrical tape in the meantime. ------------------ Roger '85 Carrera 3.2 Coupe aka "Sputterbug" http://sputterbug.com |
