High temperature paint?
What high temperature paint is effective on headers and mufflers? Looking for a readily available rattle can if possible. VHT? Others?

FWIW...I just had my 914-6 headers ceramic coated for $185. Never have to worry about paint again.
As to spray-paint, I've heard (but never tried) Rustoleum Hi-Temp BBQ paint is good. Eastwood also makes an (alleged) superior product. |

This is for a somewhat temporary system, so I didn't want to invest in ceramic coating.

I like to use manifold paint from the eastwood companay . It looks like a cast iron grey when done, and holds up awesome. Brush on as well. I have used this stuff for years, and it really does hold up well. I actuallly think it is called manifold dressing.
Good luck

Some people have tried BBQ paint. Make sure you use a high temp. primer. Personally I like ceramic coating as well

I found some VHT "flameproof" Silica Ceramic paint and am trying that. There is a three cycle cure/bake program to follow going up to 600f. The paint, if cured as specified, is supposed to protect from 1300-2000f.

I have used Zinc rich weld through primers and had good results. Krylon "Rust Tough" and LPS "Cold Galvanize"

I wondered about the cold galvanizing paint. How has it held up?

It holds up pretty well. The car in the picture was a customers...I have had the same paint on my SC muffler for a couple of years now and it seems to be fine. I have noticed it is less resistant to scratching and being handled after it has been heat cycled on the car a few times.
Only other draw back I have seen is that it fingerprints like crazy if you touch it with dirty hands. The paint is around $9 per can. Plan on a minimum of 3 cans, one for each heater box/header and one for the muffler...I would buy a fourth for touch-ups and the few spots you might miss with the first pass. The paint is very dense and sprays out much faster than regular rattlecan stuff. Cheers, Cooper
