Guys,
Thanks for the input. When I said I get grinding in reverse, this is after being completly stopped and then putting it straight into reverse. I must first shift to 2nd to stop the tranny from rotating then shift into reverse. With regards to the cable, an order has already been placed with Pelican. However I have checked the travel of the lever arm on the tranny and it is 25mm (measured with calipers) with the required 1mm space between the bolt and lever so I can see why it should be dragging. I will report back when I change the cable. Note when I fully press the clutch I can hear noise coming from the throw out bearing. Tony '78 911SC |
My 915 is is a 1977 but I too had to shift into 2 prior to going into 1st and second gear was hard to get sometimes coming from first under full throttle. My clutch cable and pedal box were servely worn and out of tolerance. I had the transmission worked on and it required all new syncros and two of the engagment rings. I suspect the wear on the transmission was caused by the wear on cable and pedal box parts. It works grate now. I had 110,000 on the 915 and wear was light for the most part.

When I first drove my Porsche the 915 tranny had me more frustrated than a leper in an arm wrestling contest... Eventually shifting properly becomes a non-issue..
