Has anyone replaced their external oil cooler lines with Stainless Braided lines? If so whats size lines and fittings would I need to use and what locations are good to source the lines from?

I am in the process of installing a front fender oil cooler. I am switching all the fittings to AN ones. These are the ones that the stainless braided lines connect to. The stainless fittings will no fit the factory connections. One is not compatible with the other.

AN hose is an alternative, but the hose will loop under the jack plate sleeve in the rocker area. Some find that looped hose visually annoying. You may not.

AN fittings are available in aluminum, steel and probably stainless as well. Use aluminum. It's lighter - probably cheaper. At some point, the hose will have to mate with metric threads, at the thermostat, the oil tank or to a factory oil line. AN-to-metric adapters are available from places such as Pegasus Racing, BAT and Elephant Racing, to name a few.

For hose and fittings, I would try Summit Racing and Speedway Motors. Min. AN hose size is -12.

Hope this helps,
Sherwood

I did this some time ago on a 74 Carrera, think I used -12 hose and AN fittings. I listed all the fittings that I needed and ordered them from Summit. As usual, it takes some time to put everything together but the hose is relatively easy to work with if you plan ahead and have the right wrenches and a vice clamp to hold the hose when putting the fittings on. I thought it all looked great when it was done and no leaks as well.

Anyone know the length of the lines required to go from the Thermostat to the fender cooler, or even better a front mount oil cooler?

I'm looking for a shortcut to me measuring it.. :-)
