Post Brake question

My car was pulling when I brake hard so I pulled the wheel tonight to check the pad, the rotor was coverd in fluid. I guess thats a bad sign. question is, what rebuild kit do I use. I have aluminum s calipers on the car. I see only one kit on pelican for the rebuild. Since they were on the car when I purchased it Im not sure of year.

Just give Pelican a call on their toll free number and explain to them what you have for calipers. They have a lot of stuff in stock thats not on their web site.I rebuilt my rear calipers about a year ago and I think the kit was less than $20.00 and it was really simple to do.

Tom,.

There is only one 'S' caliper, and one correct rebuild kit for them! The year doesn't really matter, '69 thru '77.

Warren, how do I tell if I have S calipers. I'm in a similar position as Tom in that I don't really know the history of my car. Being a 69T I think it should have non-ventilated disks, but mine actually has both vetilated disks and alloy calipers? What is the easiest way to tell? Thanks.

John,

Well, if the caliper is made of aluminum, kind of yellowish anodized, has mounting ears that measure about 88.9 mm (3.5") center-to-center, have an external fluid line running at the bottom from backside to frontside, has 'Ate' cast into the outer periphery of the body of the one-piece design (no through-bolts holding two halves together) and has a 'cover' plate which also has 'Ate' cast into it where the banjo bolt for the inlet fluid line comes into, held on with four M6 Allen bolts (that are not supposed to be removed during a rebuild) ... and also looks like the caliper designated 3/1 in the far left, lower corner of the following diagram:

... then I would say you have 'S' calipers!
