Changed my oil and filter today and once again, when I removed the oil filter, oil drains out and completely marinates the right side of the engine compartment. I removed it only after the tank and crankcase were empty, packed paper-towels around it and screwed on the new one as fast as possible. Didn't matter, it was still an oily MESS!!!
Is there a trick to this? Would like for this to be a cleaner job next time. I used about 3 lbs of kitty litter to soak up the mess. Thanks for your help, Mike 94 C2 cab |

Check the Rennlist board. There was recently an extensive thread on clean oil changes on 964's with some great tips.
Good Luck next time, Thomas [This message has been edited by TMitchell (edited 04-21-2001).] |

Once heard a tip that may or may not work for you. Once you have drained all the oil and are ready to remove the filter, take a screwdriver and puncture the filter (sort of like the second hole on a juice can). Wait a few and the oil should drain out of the filter and you shouldn't have as much of a mess. I used this on my 944 (and now my 911) it seems to work!

as you drain the oil tank, loosen the plug on the bottom of the filter console above the secondary muffler in the rear wheel well. this suctions out the lines and the filter as the oil leaves the tank. have the wheel off, and have the plug already loosened a bit. timing is everything. thanks to horst on rennlist.
