Porsche rental in Ireland?
Hi,
I'd like to do the Ring of Kerry in a vintage (pre 80's, preferably early 70's) Porsche. Myself and a friend would each like to drive one for the 156 mile drive. Kind of a "life dream", if you will. Does anyone know where one might rent something like that in the Emerald Isle?

Hi Michael,
I don't know of anywhere here in Ireland where you could hire a classic porsche, although it might be worth dropping an email to Porsche Club Ireland. I've never found them particularly helpful for anything to be honest, but it's worth a try - they might know something. There is a contact page on their website: www.porsche-club-ireland.ie What might be a better bet would be to hire the car from England and then get the ferry over to Ireland, then drive across Ireland to the Ring of Kerry. There are plenty of classic car hire places in England, and one of them should have an old 911 for hire - try a search on the uk google. Getting the ferry over the Irish sea and driving across Ireland would be a lot of fun too - definitely help stretch out the whole trip and make it even more enjoyable and fun! Good luck.

I have been to Ireland and have driven the ring of kerry in a rental. I would NOT recommend taking a porsche on there and as for a rental porsche, forget about it, IMHO. We were in an small car (ford focus) and had to fold in our side mirrors at some points when approaching traffic came so close nearly touching our mirrors. I also was able to nicely scrub the wheels on several narrow town roads near the ring. I am not a pro driver but far from average in skill level. My 2 cents...

I've done the ring of Kerry too, in a rented opal corsa. You obviously can't go during Tourist season, which is why we'll go in Feb/March..then there's no tour buses.

Not Pcar friendly??? We took the 911 round the Ring of Kerry at the tail end of last summer and it was wonderful! Sure, much of it is little country lanes but you just take it easy and avoid the pot holes - no problems at all. And it was great fun batting down the country lanes in the old 911. I guess it's what you're used to...
Good idea to go slightly off season if you can, although you still need the good weather so avoid winter. We went at the beginning of October and stayed in the little fishing village of Portmagee - took a boat tour over to the Skellig islands. It was just beatiful - really truely beautiful - and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Charles, I agree. It was an amazing drive...and the potholes just made it more charismatic.
