Fuel injector sleve removal

Is there an easy way to removeand replace the fuel injector sleves in the intake manifold of a CIS engine? I looked for a thread here and in the engine builders forums with no luck.

Maybe that means I shouldn't change them as part of my engine rebuild, huh?

But, since I'm having the injectors "reconditioned" I thought this would be a low cost supplement to that effort.

Pull the intake runners. Then place a 1/4" socket extension inside. then press out in vice. You could use a hammer to punch them out since you will not car if the old ones are destroyed.

Installation is the reverse. Don't forget the new o-rings on the injector sleeve.

I went through this a little while ago, they can be a b!tch. Three of my injectors came out with the sleeves and three did not. You may have already noticed but the intake runners have three little "stakes" around each sleeve. The aluminum is staked over the top edge of the sleeve. If the sleeve won't scrape past these stakes on the way out then you have to grind them off. I used a dremel with a small grinding wheel to grind them down. Take a tiny, little rag (soak with oil or somthing) and stuff it down the sleeve to keep metal shavings from getting down the intake. Have patience. If it still does not want to come out, use a bolt to thread down the inside of the sleeve nice and snug and then pull on the bolt. You are going to need new sleeves after all this (they are not too expensive). It takes time. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more advice.

If these are the same as Pelican part # C-110-886-03, for 74-83 cars I'll take them Do you also have the Sleve O-rings (Pelican #K-701-446-40) ?
Email me at jholgate@bellsouth.net to set up the payment and shipping info.

Sorry Wayne but I already bought several hundred dollars worth of stuff from Pelican and would be lost without your book.

Reviving an old thread but i fugured you guys would know.
Iv got a couple loose injector sleves and a couple loose injectors. They dont seem to leak i checked with a propane torch but would it be wize to replace both the injector and sleve o rings or is it normal for them to be loose? Will i need new sleeves because they will likely be destroyed when removing them to replace the o ring? I do have eratic idle so im not really fixing what aint broke just troubleshooting. I need to pull the injectors to check them soon anyway. Should i just pull and fix the loose sleeves and leave the tight ones

They will likely be unusable after removal. Also, after 20+ yrs they get brittle and break easier. Probably best to replace all + o-rings on sleeves and injectors for a good fix. While you are at it, get all your injectors cleaned.

Best regards,

Michael
