Asking for help deciding on performance exhaust
Hi,
I'm ready to do a performance upgrade on my '85 Carrera (US). I'll be installing a Fabspeed cat bypass and purchasing a SW chip. Now trying to decide on the muffler choice - will be either a one in one out or one in two out. From the searches I've done I believe much depends on the individuals preference for exhaust note (and some build quality issues), but does a two out have any advantage over a one out - except for a change in sound? I'm leaning toward an M&K or a Fabspeed. Present preference is for the Fabspeed as it's easily convertable to two out. Car is a daily driver and may see occational DE events. thanks for your help..... |

You've still only got one way into the muffler. After that, the amount of baffling is what makes the difference, not the number of outlets.
The PO put a Fabspeed 1-in-2-out on mine, it's loud, looks good, but very expensive. Not worth it over the competitors, IMO. It's prettier, but you have to crawl underneath the car to notice it.

I'd get either a m&k or a Monty. They have both gotten more expensive recently, so check prices. The Monty is proven on a many many dyno runs. It will not cost any hp. The m&k might be a bit cheaper and weighs 1-2 lbs. less. Either can easily have the RH outlet capped - in fact, Ben makes the caps. The 2 out is definitely a lot louder. Cap the RH outlet when touring with a female passenger or if it drones on a long fwy segment (that you are forced into for some reason). You can also install an electrically controlled diverter ("Cap") - there are some old threads on this. |
