Damn battery light still on..after having alternator rebuilt...any suggestions...HELP

Well I got my alternator back from the shop today reinstalled it with no problems I had a nice picture drawn on the wiring so I know it it back together right. I fired up the car and the battery light is on bright now it was barely lit before. Any suggestions..I was thinkin about driving the car down to the shop that rebuilt the alternator and having them check it out is there anything I should check or do before I do this. The fanbelt is brand new and installed right also any imput would be appreciated.

Noah could be right (on all counts), especially if it is an earlier car with a voltage regulator mounted on the driver's side engine compartment wall. If you don't have a multimeter, take the car in to verify the battery, regulator and alternator are working properly. I wouldn't fool around with this type of problem for fear of over charging the battery and blowing it up.

i remember reading this post last week and almost replied. I thought i had a problem with my alternater because of the idiot light. Had no battery probs, no starting probs etc... I just had to fix the non- existing prob. So, i did the same thing and the idiot light still did the same thing. Talk with the local porsche guru and he just kind of laughed. UNLESS your having probs starting the car, leave well enough alone. More people fix this problem that realy isn't a problem. Oh well!!! At least I know I will not need an alternater for a while.

I had no luck with a rebuilt alt on my 83. First installed the rebuilt unit, lasted about 1 week, the provider of the alt then sent me a new voltage regulator (which required removal of the alt to replace), still no good. Put in a new alt and the problem was solved.
