Turn signal problem
Here's the situation:
My turn signals were working until very recently. Now they do not but they do display an interesting quirk. With the car running, there are no turn signals. If I turn the ignition off and activate either the left one or the right, the lights will go on but not blink. I guess I can turn the car off when I want to change lanes or turn and rapidly activate/deactivate the switch but this seems like a very basic problem to fix. The only possibly related thing that I may have screwed up is that I just changed out the tach. I have checked the turn indicater bulbs in the tach and they are good. All of the wiring at the tach appears good and I'm pretty sure that I installed it correctly. (It works.) Car is a 77 911. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! Jess |
Sounds like its time for a new $95 turn signal switch....
I replaced mine when I first got the my SC. Magilla |
With the ignition off, this sounds correct.
Check your turn signal flasher relay? Nick ------------------ Nick Hromyak '85 Carrera 7 & 9 Fuchs Havin' Fun in Sacramento CA |
Nick,
That's what I was thinking. Problem is I don't know where the relay is. On my SC it's above the fuses but it's not there on my '77. I have the Bently book for the SC but I don't have many technical resources for this track car. Jess |
As I recall, the flasher is behind the tach. I think it is a tall square relay looking thing. Not sure, though it might be a small silver round one.
I remember my '73 having the tall black square one. Perhaps Warren can chime in..? Anyone else with a mid 70s 911? Perhaps you can just go to your local auto-store and ask for a flasher, see what it looks like and then look for that under your dash (behind the tach) ------------------ Nick Hromyak '85 Carrera 7 & 9 Fuchs Havin' Fun in Sacramento CA |
Thanks very much Nick!
This makes a lot of sense, since I was just monkeying around behind the tach. There's an extremely good chance that I knocked a wire off of the relay if it's back there. I'll take a look and let you know. Jess |
it's in front of the fuel gauge. accessable either from the front trunk or pop out the gauge. a rectangular 4 terminal unit. the lights that stay on with the key out and the T/S switch left or right are designed as a marker to protect your car at night.
