Heater red knobs - how to install

Have 79 SC, does anyone know how to remove the old faded red knobs (between the seats) and correctly install new ones? Thanks. Lynn

Porsche Crest Heater Lever Handles

Hi, they just slip off and on. They are a friction/compression fit. When installing the new handles, I found it was easy to press the lever down into the handle. I had the hand brake assembly removed and all levers removed when I refurbished mine. I refinished my old faded out "pink" handles, and repainted all of the hardware at the same time when I did this task. The reason I actually did it in the first place was due to one of the heater cables breaking, and I replaced them with locally acquired stainless cable cores. I also installed a different way to connect the cable cores to the heater levers, being I thought that the way they were just stuck through the holes on the levers and then just twisted around was sort of cheesy looking, plus it also allowed some slack in the cables due to the wrap-around type of connection. My new mod on this eliminated all of the slop and slack in the cable cores. Good luck with your refinishing!! Tony.
