Post Dansk Heat Exchangers

With all of the discussion recently around the SSI heat exchanger / Dansk muffler setup...is anybody on the board using the Dansk exchangers? Would think that maybe the flange/gasket problem would be less likely to occur if you were going Dansk-to-Dansk.

They're equal-length, polished stainless steel, and cost $100 bucks less than SSI.

Thumbs up

I got a great deal on the Dansk HE's.

They are really well made, on a par with SSI's.

They matched up to the Dansk muffler OK, exhausts always need a bit of persuasion.

The ones I have were the type listed for the 2.7 Carrera, but I think they are all the same.

I have an extra pipe on the R/H unit which will give warm air all the time.
I guess MFI needs it for warm up.
Anyone know what is best to do with this?
Shall I just cap it?

In summary I don't know if they fit better, but they are good value.

Regards, Jon

Jon,

Where did you find the Dansk HEs?

There should be two extra outlets on the left HE for MFI ... one about 2.25" can be ignored, as is does not share any air with the heater. The 1" outlet up high and forward, near the flapper/heater control valve can be capped.

Porsche Crest

Hello Warren,

I contacted the UK importers which happened to be practically opposite my place of work.

They gave me the trade price.
This is no good whatsoever to you, I know.

I know that Vertex stock Dansk, I think they quoted me $520 for the pair (not sure).
(Sorry Wayne!)

Cheers, Jon

Dansk exchangers are nice, but they are different from SSI's. I looked at them when I was shopping and ended up going with the SSI's.

First, for your SC 3.0L the exhaust studs are longer than the early cars. The outlet flanges on SSI's are thicker to allow for this, Dansk are not, so you will have to make some kind of a spacer if you want to use them.

Second, Dansk are not modified to be "equal-length" as the SSI's are. I'm not sure if this makes an apprecible performance difference, but SSI claims it does.

Good Luck.
Nick.

I believe the Dansk heat exchangers are OEMed by SSI. This, according to a conversation with John (owner) last year.

The heat exchangers you saw with the thin flanges were probably for the early 911's, not for the 3 liter engines.
