Post Jack Stand Locations

I'm dropping my front suspension for a complete rebuild and I'm wondering where to put the jack stands. Normally I just put them under the A-arms but with them off thats not possible. Anyone have any pictures of where they put them? I don't want to use the clasic trial and error method for this as it can be quite dangerous.

Thanks.

You can jack anywhere along the torsion bar tubes on the rear of the car. either just inboard of the spring plate or more inboard on tube itself. On the front, I use the rear support for the A-arms. You can also get a jack plate for the factory rocker panel hole ($12) where you can position a hydraulic floor jack under, but this doesn't raise the rear of the car as well as the front. Don't jack the car anywhere on the floorpan. On the rear, I will generally put my hydraulic jack just inboard of the spring plates and then place jackstands more inboard on the torsion bar tubes themselves (on either side of the front of the transmission). On the front I will jack the car up from the rocker panel hole and then place jackstands or a large wood block (several 2x4's glued and screwed together) under the rear of the A-arm supports.

Remember, always use as many jacks as you can, set the park brake and car in gear (when possible) and chock the wheels that remain on the ground with wood blocks. I once knew someone who died when their car fell on them. I don't want to know another! Be careful and check everything twice.

Hope this helps.
Nick.
