H4 headlight question
What is the small, extra light below the main headlight? Circled in the picture below. It was not wired up.

City lights. You can wire it in if you’d like.
Pretty easy to do. ![]() |

Ahh. I was thinking it was something like that. What's the procedure to get the wired up?

You can wire the bulb into the parking/running light circuit so they come on with those lights. My RoW car has them from the factory and that's how they are. The ground tab on mine just has a little pig tail to share the ground for the headlight if I remember correctly.
The lights are kinda cool in that they illuminate the headlight but don't cast any light - it's more of a glow from the lens. They are only 5 watt bulbs so won't light up anything but the lights so you are more visible. ![]()

In Germany, the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations) calls for a ... function also known as parking lamps: With the vehicle's ignition switched off, the operator may activate a low-intensity light at the front (white) and rear (red) on either the left or the right side of the car. This function is used when parking in narrow unlit streets to provide parked-vehicle conspicuity to approaching drivers.[30] This function, which is optional under UN and US regulations, is served passively and without power consumption in the United States by the mandatory side marker retroreflectors.

... and the way they are activated on the ROW cars is that you use the signal light switch when the ignition is off and that turns on the parking lights on the corresponding side.

Interesting, Brian. I guess most places in the world require front position lights that are white and not amber like they are here.
I know that the marker lights turn on without blinking if you hit the signal light with the ignition off, but in the name of being thorough, I just checked my car and only the city light on that side lights up in front as well as the rear tail light. I always thought it would illuminate the front signal light and not the city light when I did that. Learn something new every day...
