New Carpet ??

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good Auto Upholstery shop in Connecticut? Near Hartford would be good!

Does anyone have experience doing their own re-carpet job. I have 1983 911 Cabriolet.

How hard would it be to do myself?
Should I use some kind of dyna mat for sound dampening?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks
Dante

It's the perfect DIY job: not difficult, just time consuming.

I never did my 911 but did carpet my MGB. Like aston said, not difficult it just takes patience. I used some lightweight insulation on my MGB and it makes a big difference in cabin heat/sound-even in a convertible.

I didn't change the carpet in my MGB, I just hosed it out and threw in some more sawdust ;-)

The stitching around the pieces is what so very time consuming. I was going to use the boarder material around each piece but it didn't look right.
I think it cost less then $100.00 for the materials. It would have been less but when I cut the tunnel and back seat pieces I cut them backwards so I had to get more material.
In the second photo you can see the difference between the factory material(floor mat) and the stuff I used.
As far as how hard it is to do, not very, just use your old carpet as templates.
I'd say DIY first
Their was also a side benefit, when I took out the old carpet from the back seat area it was soaking wet.

Appbiz does good kits. You can do it yourself.

All my pics are on the other computer, wife is busy with it.
Search on my name and appbiz. Lots of successful projects done here with them.

You can get as detailed as you want. For both of mine I stripped the interior back to steel but your level of energy and susceptability to rust will govern whether you do the same.

I ordered an RS kit for my 83SC which I later used in a 1971. I had no problems. I n my case I glued 3mm closed cell foam to the back of the pieces to get a bit more deadening with less than 1lb weight for the entire car.
