oil pump casing replacement
Hi my car is a 2002 996 Carrera 2, during a service i managed to crack the bottom of the oil pump housing causing a loss of the coolant water. i have obtained a replacement housing and stripped out the old one, the engine is still in the car. on inspection before replacement the intermediate shaft has moved up and over to the right, 2 o'clock position, preventing the housing o' ring boss from fitting. I think this is caused by the timing chain tension. i have slacken off the 3 main tensioners which has allowed the shaft to move but not enough to centre the shaft any suggestions of what to do next. I have considered backing off the crank anti clockwise to free up the chain but i am reluctant to turn the engine without some advise.

![]() This is a serious problem, and one difficult to correct yourself. You need special tools and knowledgeable advice. Do a search for "intermediate shaft bearing replacement" and read up on the procedure. Good luck. Len
