Front Hub Removal for Rotor Replacement
As a follow up to my previous post about front wheel spacers, I seem to have been able to separate the rotor from the spacer/hub, but now the hub doesn't want to move. Is there a special tool used to get the hub off? Kinda looks like there might be. From the 101 Projects book, this looked like it woulda been a bit easier.

If you have removed the bolts holding the two together they should seperate. Try a rubber mallot or a wood 2x4 and smack it.

Thank you. However, I got the rotor to separate from the hub, but I can't get the hub off the car. So, I bolted the rotor and hub back together and am trying to get the hub off, but it won't budge.

Have you taken the bearing cap and nut off?

you can try a generic puller from Harbor Freight. Mine comes off if I put my feet on the wheel well, sit on my butt, and pull really hard. The inner bearing race is pushed onto the spindle. Usually you will destroy the inner bearing when you do this, so you need to be prepared to replace the inner bearing as well as take the race out of the hub. Also have new grease seals on hand so you can do the job right.
If you are lucky enough to get access to the spindle somehow from the back, it would be better to pound out the bearing to release it from the spindle. You are trying to find the inner race on the inner bearing, if that makes any sense...... |
Yes, the bearing cap. I figured that out right before I logged back on to check for responses. Any tips on getting that beast off. It's not budging either.

ohh...sorry misunderstood.
Use a muffler clamp. tighten it around the dust cap, and then pry the two off with a prybar. You will have to re-tighten and work your way around the dust cap until it comes out. or make something like this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1205015652.jpg |

Thanks. I've run into one road block after another on this job. Now I'm stuck with the hex bolt. How in the world to you get a allen wrench to get in there to loosen it up?

There's a groove in the hub. Rotate the hub until it lines up with the allen bolt.

Spin the hub until the notch in the ID lines up with the hex bolt, and you can then insert an allen wrench. Loosen it a few turns, then the gland nut will spin right off.
