Post Guage Lights

Hey...

I know the gauge lights are 12V 2W...but they are dim

I found equivalents in 5W...do you think that is too much for the wiring...nothing in 3 or 4W...

I ordered 2 just to try...any heads up from electricians...

thanks

MJ

You can get them from the local dealer...one of the very few things in these cars that are cheap and in-stock. I got ten or twenty of them recently for a few bucks.

Just with the new bulbs the dash seems noticably brighter. My thirty-year old bulbs were pretty discolored and dusty.

New stock bulbs will probably help a lot, but check the guage lamp power harness (blue wire w/yellow stripe, goes to each and every lamp in the guages), and the ground connection on the back of each guage (the brown wire-ANY solid brown wire on a 911/912 is a chassis ground wire), and the stud ground point to the chassis right where the 3 bulkhead connectors pass through the sheetmetal that seperates the trunk from the the passenger area, under the guages. Make sure the connections are tight and clean-no corrosion.

I went to my local Porsche dealer and he could only reference a 2w OSRAM bulb. Do you have a part number and are we talking about the BA7s base bulb? On my 88 Carrera the lighing for the Speedo and Tach is very dim and I can't seem to find anything stronger than 2w. Also, where did you order the 5w bulbs? Thanks
