Fitted main switch and fire extinguisher today
Hi, due to classic insurance I had to fit a main switch and a fire extinguisher to my car. I did so today. I even fitted a voltage-meter next to the switch. As the CD-radio had trouble to overshadow the car's inbuilt noise (loud exhaust anyone) I found I had no further use for it and mounted the switch/voltmeter in its place.
I fitted the fire extinguisher to the existing holes in the compartement for the gear-adjustment/clamps. It fitted nicely! ![]() Ole ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice work! Hopefully you won't ever have to use the extinguisher!

How do the "main switches" work? Some sort of cable arrangement that actuates a switch at the battery?

Looks good. That's where I put my extinguisher.

Those main cut-off switches actually are inline with a battery cable. It breaks the continuity of the battery cable that it is connected to.
ON- the cable and circuit is complete OFF- the cable and circuit is open

Is that switch to keep the car from being stolen?

I would guess to stop it from burning if an electrical fault occurs.

Check your connections don't result in the dreaded voltage (or current?) spike that causes some disconnects to burn alternator circuits.

One of the "classic car" insurers that I had talked with, said it needed a master battery kill switch and a fire extinguisher. When I asked about the master switch, they told me that it was to cut power in the event of possible car theft. The switch also had to be located outside the cabin of the vehicle, mainly specified in the forward trunk near the battery. They also inquired about a locking "trunk" release handle. I have a master kill switch, that can be reached from the drivers seat when strapped in, it is in my 440-6pack Road Runner, and its battery is located in the trunk, for better weight distribution. The switch is a little different than the plastic type that is shown. It is all metal and is fused. Also there is another master kill switch mounted at the left rear, just behind the bumper. This is for the pit crew in case they need to kill the car while anywhere in the burn-out or staging area.

Which kill switch is that? Is it a 3 pole, 6 pole, etc.?
