Spirited driving will rid the valve / seat area of any carbon pieces that may get stuck there during a plug change. The issue is if you have that piece there (temporarily) while you adjust valves.

whatever you do, don't put Red Locktite on there!

This may be a little off the topic but on other engines I have done there is a spec for intake and a spec for exhaust and the exhaust spec is larger. The reason behind this is the exhaust valve gets hotter than the intake valve and expands more. Does anyone account for this in their valve adjustments?

Not sure why you would need Locktite? I am all for belts and suspenders but if you fasten the nut properly, there is no way anything is coming off. Also, the threads are very oily, you can not apply a thread locker properly to an oiled up assembly! You guys are over-analyzing this procedure.

Right. I was just listing all three that are oil tolerant.
I use the blue #246.

For whatever reason, George, I had one come off. That $1 nut can cause thousands of dollars of damage, so why not a little cheap insurance like Loctite?

Green Loctite on valve adjuster: A dab on the small screws holding in the feeler blade on the valve adjuster tool.

Overnight method: Just a nice way to get a beer, sit back, reflect, then wake up with a full pot of coffee and check your work. I want to be refreshed when I do this so I simply wait overnight.

Also, whenever I do this job, I put the car up on all four 'stands and remove the wheels. This way I can 1) bleed the brakes 2) do the valves 3) really clean those Fuchs 4) any other stuff I see on the underside.

If you fasten that nut, it won't come off. If it came off, it was not fastened properly. Flat six Porsche engines are not known to loose their valve adjustment nuts, neither does the factory recommend thread locker on their adjustment hardware. I also have not heard of any reputable mechanic use this "technique". ;)

Not every thing needs Loctite...

Not every thing needs to be set with a torque wrench....

I had another guy with me checking my work, so I'm sure it was tightened. Maybe it was just a one in a million fluke......
