Show me your trick *1 CAR* Garage

Hi,

I was just browsing through the "Ultimate Garage Thread", and noticed they are all showing these great, huge 2+ car garages. I'm curious to find out if anyone has any cool 1 car garage implementations though. I'm currently juggling bikes, snowboards, tools, etc... in my garage and I'd love to see other people's ideas for organization, etc, and still be able to work on the cars.

Thanks!

mto

This will be an interesting thread. I fought this scenario since '78 on my first home. This year, my second home is a nice, large 2 car. Still seens too small. I keep vehicles at both properties, the first does have a large carport behind the house approx 45' x 20'

I am guessing that a well-organized individual would be able to pull it off...I guess that excludes me...

I'll show you my one car NON-garage.

It's just as cramped and way less charming than the UK one.

No fair 911mo, your's is the 'extra long' size I see. And mede8er that is far too organised. And Zeke, I envy your open ait style. I share the garage with a freezer jammed at the end, a vac canister hanging on one wall & an overhead shelf in the last 1/4 containing camping gear, lawn furniture pads, oversized boxes etc. The walls have hanging shovels etc. See pic below. My wife's car trumps mine in the winter & mine goes off to off-site storage. Next year I'll probably buy a plastic garage for the backyard & bring the car through the back fence. What a pita. But usable. Barely.

But I just paid the mortgage off last week, so we're staying.

Bikes and snowboards belong in the house.

I've got a two deep, one wide garage. But it's dirty, make that nasty.

Two wide seems pretty rare outside of the US and I DO miss them. It's no fun doing the Porsche/Subaru shuffle.

Close-up pics where people point out the tricks would be helpful.

Two issues are the lack of space (volume or area) and the arrangement of that space (long & thin rather than more square).

Some ideas:
- cut out the wallboard between studs if finished & stick tools in there (on hangers most likely)
- use foam bumpers to pad door openings
- store stuff up high on shelves, racks, etc. (but think about it falling when you grab something else and are tired, not paying attention; think about earthquakes)
- windows or skylights
- store tools near rear of car as most work will be done there

I have a one car garage...showed this picture in another thread.

I kicked our other car out in the name of need to get my car fixed before good weather so the wife can have the other. Thinking the major snow was over, I wouldn't have to scrape and dust off the snow of the other just to get to work...boy was I wrong...worst snow of the season last week.
