67 Soft window Targa
 
Anything valuable about these cars?
I just looked at one that is in some what poor condition. There is some rusty areas but not that bad for how old it is. The front pan looks pretty good, not great but good.

Rockers still have there under coating and don't show any holes or major rot yet. inner rocker supports looked good.
Dash has no cracks and the interior is all there but needs alot of work.

Needs paint /seals ect,ect to be presentable again and I'm sure there is body work lurking under the last paint job. No foil vin sticker on the lock post. it has a older respray at some point.
This car has a 77 2.7 with webbers also.
Runs and drives, looks a bit ruff and is a pale yellow which is nice if it is the original color.

Just wondering how valuable these car are because they are asking 18k!
Is the owner sniffing glue? or am I just not well informed on there rarety?

I think it may be the glue answer :)

The chassis is worth a good deal because they didn't make a ton. The 912 I believe is worth even more because they made even less (correct me if I am wrong). Originality would have been nice but a rebuilt 2.7 could be viewed as a nice upgrade to that vehicle so I wouldn't say its the end of the world. Modifications that are non-Porsche or body related would drop the value fast. Any flare work, even if its a Porsche flair would drop it, bumpers, lights, and the such.

Really engine work is where you can appreciate a good Porsche chassis by improving upon what was in there. In this case the aluminum 2.0 would have been ideal, however, the 2.7 done well is a great deal nicer to drive around with as its got a bit more torque that the 2.0 could have always used.

Thanks for the info. could this be even close to 18k? seems awfully high to me but then again i don't know much about them.

"No foil vin sticker on the lock post." because this car was made prior to these existing and they were only introduced in later years.

The number produced for 67 Soft window targas by body/engine type:
911 - 235
911S - 483
912 - 544

The 1968's were a few more:
911 - 268
911L - 307
911T - 521
911S - 442 (Non USA car)
912 - 1217

The prices for the 911 SWT for 1967 and 68 have been in the $20-30K (decent drivers). The 911S 1967, and 1968 (ROW) are in the $30's to 60K (decent drivers) - one of the expertly restored 68S targas set a high mark last year at $117K. Don't know where the 912's have been setting - anyone have recent selling $ for these? Ron, you might be right - poor body/rust, not very good repaint, 2.7 (non-numbers matching) doesn't sound like a prime dollar earner. But, at only 235 made - how many are left that can be saved?
