Please share what performance improvements you saw after upgrading to the 964 cam. I am having my cams worker on and for an addition $300 I can get the 964 profile. Don't know if it's worth the bucks..Thanks

Nope. Been there, done that, spent the money. Not if you leave your induction system stock, chips don't count. The stock mass flow is your limiting factor. Buy the euro pistons or SSI's and a dual out let muffler and/or upgrade your MFS.
My '87 motor is step up as follows. 3.2 euro pistons SSI's & Porsche sport muffler C-2 Cam Auto-Thority Chip 219.2 hp at wheels, about 242-245 hp flywheel. A friend of mine has a '88 as follows: 3.2 euro pistons cat by pass dual outlet muffler Huntley MFS 222 hp at wheels My next upgrade is a 993 MFS and a custom chip from Sportwagen Auto in Germany. Should be around 260-265 hp flywheel. The Sportwagen conversion makes 258 hp. (see 911 World, August, 2000 for details) I think that the new 993 MFS will allow the C-2 cam come into play. |

Agreed. Can't fool the Motronic. The great thing about the Motronic is that you get really good timing/injection maps for the stock motor. The bad part is that you can't easily customize the profile. So the 964 cams may actually decrease your HP at certain RPM, because the motor is thinking that the cams are profiled differently than what's really in there.
On an SC, there is a definite improvement, but it's questionable on the 3.2 because of the Motronic... -Wayne |
