A/C blows fuse, not too cold
 

Friend has 1983 911SC in pretty good shape. Whenever he uses the a/c, it will blow the a/c fuse (25 amp). Might do it in an hour or a day or two.

Also, air does not really blow cold. Never been updated, and he is interested in improving if can be done economically.

So, has anyone else had a electrical problem - where to look first?

And, who has the best experience with an update kit? Cost is not so important as the kit has to be well engineered so that the two of us (non mechanic types) can do it in a day or so.

I had the same problem last year after adding a can of freon. Turns out the system was "overcharged". Had system evacuated and recharged with the OEM recommended capacity. No problems since in terms of the fuse. Cooling properly is whole other story :D

My fuse was not actually blowing. It would get so hot that it would melt the fuse body, shrink and lose contact. It never blew the metal contact.

could also be a bad coil on the clutch.

Which fuse number is it? I think its far more likely that corrosion on your fuse panel is contributing to an increased resistance that causes the fuse to heat up or even melt. Check out a few posts by fred cook. He separated the evap fan blower I think and did a rewire of his fuse panel to solve a similar problem.

FWIW..... I still don't buy that over charging a/c will blow fuses

remove fuse..put short piece of wire with insulated spade connector in each screw connection.install GM syle circuit breaker..25 amp..comes with spade connections to plug in GM fuse box..GM has always used recycling circuit breakers in their a/c units to solve similar amperage surges..will automatically recycle and never be a problem..
