sump plate/stainer

Dear All,

I removed the sump plate from my 82 SC to replace the gaskets.

The hole in the stainer was in front of the car...

Should the screen not be positioned so that the suction tube from the oil pump fits through the hole?
This means that the hole in the screen should be on the right side of the engine, and the plug in the recess from the screen, on the left side?

I'm confused...

Who can help me to find the correct position of sump plate and stainer?

Thx,
André

the hole in the strainer should fit onto the oil pump sump (intake pipe). The sump cover should be positioned so that the drain plug does not block the oil pump intake.
