Isn't that the whole point? Being offensive? I mean what do you propose calling them? Macho studly ***** gettin' babe magnet super duper track burnin' pimped out ghetto-sled? Do these guys really need their egos stroked? I don't think so. If anyone knows of a more demeaning and derogatory phrase to use, let me know.

Ricers are offensive. I've had a Prelude for 6 years (No wing, stripes, subwoofers big pipe or mooing cow air intake) A friend of mine and I were at an auto-x a couple of years ago (he also had a Prelude). A bunch of these "ricers" showed up and sat in the parking lot and played there stereos and did wimpy burnouts. My buddy looked at me and said he was getting rid of his Honda. He's got a sweet 968 now and I'm getting a 911.

No more offensive than any other legume with "er" added to the end to denote an ethnic race or propensity in terms of behavioral characteristics. Why?

Some ricers around here make me jealous on some grounds though:
The fine little Asian girls riding shotgun (I've heard referred to has "Honda Ho's"). Many of those little honeys with platform shoes are simply Yum-Yum. ------------------ Kurt B '84 Carrera Cab. carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |

I prefer the term "rickshaw".

The last thing in the world I want to see happen to this BBS, is for it to go politically correct. I like the free-wheeling attitude we have here. And to hell with the ricers, rickshaws etc....call 'em as you see 'em.

A ricer that rices a VW is a sheep in Wolfsburg clothing.

You know, I was thinking just today how the term might be offensive to some. Then I was passed on IH 35 by a bad a** Chevrolet Cavalier with a loud wide tip. It hit me. It is not just the mitsubushi;s and hondas that are offensive--it is all tinny inline 4-6 cyl front wheel drive wannabees, regardless of race, creed or national origin.

Ricers?? Toyota Tots, whatever, politically incorrect or not, call like you see 'em.
I think I'll go burn some fossil fuel in my un-naturally aspirated internal combustion engine in the mountains. When I get home, I'll turn down the AC and subject a slab of some poor cow to intense heat, whilst consuming an alcoholic beverage and drink a toast the good Doktor and all the pleasure his cars give me. |

Sharing the road with these crass and garish 'no-one-will-know-it's-not-a-racecar' rice burners is offensive!

I think that the best way to describe these guys and their cars is "Posers". They want to own race cars, but have no intention of taking it to the track. As well, they glue and rivet non-functional performance parts to their cars.
I think that the term "Ricer" is offensive if you are referring to the driver, but not so bad if you are referring to the car, be it North American, Japanese or whatever. Adam White |

![]() I like "Poser" the best; it degredates the car and the driver with an insult, yet there are no ethnic race connotations that apply. Doug, Im not trying to turn this board into a politically correct forum at all, in fact I am a huge fan of Bill Mahr and agree with his views 90 percent of the time. I just think my buddies at the Shao Lin Kung Fu Temple would prefer "poser" as opposed to "ricer" (most of them drive BMW's, Jetta's or Ford Trucks). Keep the ones that don't apply out of the loop. Porshce is above the average standard, why shouldn't we try to be? |

I think it has less to do with political correctness (whatever that means), than it does to do with accuracy. These things aren't annoying because they come from Japan (the land of some pretty decent track cars) or Korea (land of some not-so-impressive track cars. And they're not annoying because the drivers are often Asian.
The rice term came from the Asian motorcycle crowd, and their 'rice rockets,' which made a little bit more sense. But there are plenty of falsely-hopped-up cars of every nationality, with drivers from all around the globe. The heart of what's irritating about these guys is the adolescent attitude -- all show and no go -- with the cars tricked out to the nines in a way that would break up like a Pinata if the thing ever went down a steep enough hill to manage 90 mph. I think it's really more about the mating rituals of the young and the restless than it is about performance -- and as Kurt pointed out, they often succeed better than real track cars in that department ![]() And of course it's not just limited to Asian import cars: American idiocy. German idiocy. 'Posers' gets to the heart of the problem, more accurately, but doesn't have the ring of 'ricers.' It could also apply to just about any area of young male behavior. And 'decal-and-diffuser crowd' is probably too much to type. Some clever Madison Avenue guy is going to have to come up with something that's more accurate and catchy at the same time. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 04-29-2001).] |

If a 935 has a 962 motor is it a poser?. Somebody has to defend the 935's.
