My $4000 project longhood

In 2004 I paid $4000 for this 73T. The paint job was awful and the interior was shot. The suspension was also gone, it sure didnt ride like my 72. But it did start up easily and the trans shifted fine. So I paid the $4000 and drove it 150 miles to my house and parked it.

My son and I stripped it down to bare metal and started replacing and putting everything back together.

All the rubber suspension parts, torsion bars, shocks, were replaced. A new headliner, seats, dash, carpet, door and window seals were also replaced.

The engine was pulled while the car was getting painted and some cleaning and powdercoating was done.

The trunk was also cleaned up and painted.

And the cost to date.

Initial cost of car $4000
paint 580
seals 580
Interior 2345
suspension 1425
tires 385
misc 920

total $10,235

I need a rear view mirror, horn, and windshiel washer nozzel. And I'm sure some other small parts. And the tach doesn't work.

I could not have done this without this forum. I searched previous post or asked questions along the way. And bought the majority of the parts through Pelican or the classifieds. I worked on the car off and on, mostly during the winter.

Thanks everyone

I see much win here.

Save a potential basket case from eventually going to the salvage yard, enjoy what you're doing and eventually pass it along to the next caretaker.

Good on 'ya.

Keep us posted on the progress of the next project will yah?

BTW where are you finding such solid peices to bring back to life???

$850 for paint? This must be just for materials right, I assume your doing all the labor yourself?
very nice work too!

Yes, I did all the work myself. I also still had some leftover primer ect. that kept the cost down some. I'm also sure there are probably some small things that I paid for and forgot to write down.

I think if someone is willing to do all the work themselves, you should be able to bring one of these back to very presentable condition for $5,000 to $10,000. This does not include trans and motor work though. But do expect to put in alot of time.
