Failing Brake Light Switch

I noticed today in the reflection of the truck with a chrome bumper behind me that my brake lights are not coming on without more pressure than it should be.

I had this problem with my '60s English sports car. I constantly was replacing the pressure switch. It would last a year or so, and then go bad. Once I learned that it was a common problem with the English switches these days, I gave up and made a bracket and electrical switch so that my brake lights now go on even when I just start to think about braking.

Anyone have similar experiences with our cars? Or do I just replace the switch and it should be good to go for a long time (bleeding the fluid of course)?

Thanks,
Jay

What kind of car do you have? On my '86 911 i replaced the two electrical switches on the master cylinder, bled system,no problem!

2nd on what car??? If it is a Porsche, change the switches out. What you are describing are very common symptoms of bad brake switch/switches.

Actually, I just looked at the part in the Pelican blow up. It looks like a manual switch, not a hydraulic switch. Are these adjustable to where they light up? This is for my 1973 911.

That is why the car information would have been helpful to have. I guess that your brake switch is mounted in the pedal cluster. Some can be adjusted, if still good.
