I was finally able to get my new (used but new to me) 2.7 RS MFI engine installed in my car. The engine has been sitting since August and now I'm having some trouble with its running. My engine is set up as a track engine and has no warm up circuit. The engine
will run but only (seems like) with the warm up solenoid actuated manually. I have a new fuel pump and all fuel plumbing seems to be correct. Has my MFI pump dry rotted or is there another solution for my problem? slope-nz Randy Bergtholdt |

This is an open-ended question. What pump are you using? I think that the original RS pumps came with the warmup solenoid (I don't think that the RSRs did though).
In order for the engine to get the proper rich startup mixture, this warmup 'sensor' needs to be activated. Hooked to the air output from the heat exchangers, this solenoid richens up the mixture until the car is warm, and then shuts off. If you don't have this hooked up properly, then your car will run rich all the time. This seems to be the opposite of what you have, so I'm not really sure what you mean? -Wayne |

Wayne, in response to your question about what kind of pump do I have, I can only advise you yhat the # on the pump is 0408 126 19RS. This engine has no thermostat,enrichment solenoid,or shut off solenoid.The only way I can keep the engine running is by engageing the solenoid on top of the fuel filter. This seems to keep enough fuel coming in to the intake manifold for the engine to run at idle.I have run the engine long enough like this for it to come to normal operating temp. The best guess that I have at this time is that the injection pump is not providing any (or enough) fuel to the engine to operate at any RPM above idle.If I disengage the solenoid ( on top of the fuel filter ) the engine will die, even at idle. My frist effort at this point is to see if the injector pump is delivering any fuel to the injectors , but I'm not sure were I'll go next if fuel is there. I hope that I've been clearer in explaining my problem at this point. Thanks

Wayne, Will wonders never sease,I was going to start checking on the fuel flow to the injectors and to my surprise the engine runs fine now.Maybe fuel sitting in the system overnight melted any crud that had developed in the fuel system sitting sense August.At this point the only thing wrong is a ocasonal backfire through the exhaust.I'm not to concerned about that at this point,plenty of time to work this out as I get the car up on 4 wheels and can drive it.If you have any thoughts on any of this please let me know.Thanks,

It sounds like contaminated fuel. Probably moisture in the fuel lines. If it continues to run bad you may want to clean the lines and ejectors with B-12 chem tool.

I'm no guru at this but here is my 2 cents. I just adjusted the timing on my pump. Waht i mean by that is that i lined up the marks on the back of the pump. They were actually 1\16 on an inch off. After this the car would not run. Thought i messed something up. Checked everything and all was ok. Couldn't believe that i had to adj the top end enrichment by 4 clicks to get to run right. Sounds to me like you car is running lean. Try that-its the easiest thing to try first. Also about 2 yrs ago after my car sat for about 6 months it would not start. Found that the old fule line running from the tank to the pump had collapsed and was starving the engine. This problem drove me nuts for 2 weeks.
