Alternative to 9191 Cam Tool
I am slowly getting together the tools, knowledge and courage to start my engine rebuild. In reading the Bently manual in the cam shaft removal/timing section it stated to use tool 9191 or a substitute.
I don't want to scrimp and not get a needed tool to do the job right, but before I spend $75 for a tool, I would like to know if there are better (cheaper) substitutes out there So... |
I would like to know. I just ordered one from PP.

That's one of the areas that has to be addressed properly. For a one only engine rebuild, you may be able to borrow one. Ask over on the parts forum and engine rebuild forum for a loaner and tell them you will send them $75 deposit. I'm sure someone will be able to help.
Yes, you could make one if you're that handy and your time is worth about ten bucks an hour. I made a Jeep to work on the front axle king pin. It's a one-of-a-king deal that you can't use for another darn thing. Took all evening and I saved about 50 bucks. If it weren't for the challenge, I would have been better off buying one. |
I would make one, but that is just me.
