MSD Wire Install
 

So I picked up a universal plug wire set from MSD;

It came resourced with a cool crimping tool and the spark plug boots and ends all-ready crimped and booted;

I simply attached the HDI caps as boot extenders and added the distributer ends and....well here is what I got:

They came from the same place, MSD on-line. I don't think it would be right to post a link here, but its pretty easy to find.

Actually the coolest thing in the kit was the mini-crimper/cutter tool, and fits in a vise, very easy to use.

Did you come up with any kind of boot or seal to cover the holes where the connectors go through the valve covers?

How important is it to have those holes sealed up? Seems like a lot of air would blow out of those holes that should be blowing over your heads.

More of an issue I've seen and heard my Mech complain about is junk geting down into the passages, leaves, twigs, crud etc..:eek:
then the danger of this stuff getting into the cyclinder when you pull the plugs out increases ten fold! :mad:

Actually I have some old boot covers of another set of wires that fit fine (Jacobs), I really don't go off road too much so I'm not especially concerned with the issue of twigs and crap, so I haven't put them on yet.

I really don't think that any air is directed over the plugs, I will let you know if there is a heat difference or if crap gets in there without the boot covers. I think I'll keep them off and just use compressed air to blow out the holes for services.

I used a pickle jar cover with a hose clamp for the left side block off, I will upgrade soon, Ive seen some pretty high speed tuna cans at the grocery store, I just haven't taken that plunge yet.

The biggest issue I had with these wires is finding the plug, these boots are soft and the ends can slip right by the plug really easy, I had a hard time fishing around to get them on, but a reassuring "click" indicated that the wire was properly connected, no joke I was close to just using the clewett ends that I had, getting them on was a PITA.

Another small issue if you refer to the photos above is that I forgot to put the #5 on the sleeve of the 5 wire.

And I would have cut the #6 wire a little shorter, if I had trial fitted the wires prior to putting the plug ends on I would have gotten a tighter fit.

Thanks for all the help in getting the right stuff, you really pointed me in the right direction. Are you using the boot seals?
