Heater Blower Squirrel Cage

Help! How does the squirrel cage come off the heater blower motor? (1988) I have my blower motor out and am trying to take it apart but the nut on the shaft just turns the whole shaft. The squirrel cage just spins on the shaft when holding it to loosen the nut. Is this normal or am I missing something.

I don't know if the '88 motor is different, but IIRC I removed the motor from the housing first with three small screws. Then, I could hold the "squirrel cage" while unscrewing the bolt. I didn't have any problems. Is the housing already off?

Yes, Housing is off. The motor shaft is turning inside the squirrel cage when I try to hold the cage and loosen the bolt. No other way to hold the shaft and loosen the bolt other than hold it with the cage. Thanks for the response but I gave up. The motor originally was very hard to turn, squealed and it blew the 25A fuse feeding it. I sprayed a significant amount of LPS contact cleaner into the motor followed by WD-40. It freed it up quite a bit. I'll run it until it quits, send a sawsall in between the cage and motor to cut the shaft, punch out the shaft from the cage and go with a new pelican motor.
