2.2T ignition system diagram/help?
Hello
Okay. I've got the following items on hand and need to assemble a reasonably functional ignition system for my car. -marelli dist/cap/rotor in excellent condition' -incorrect bosch distributor/cap/rotor in unknown condition (on the car, but cap looks good) -crane XR700/Fireball ignition -stock cd box in unknown condition -unopened pertronix for all 911Ts -nondescript chromed coil that was being used with the crane system What will work with what and does anyone have a decent diagram? The p/o really, really screwed up the engine bay wiring ![]() I am taking a day off next week to tackle this (weddings and spring skiing occupying my time this weekend) and need to get my ducks in a row in advance. Depending on who I ask, I get different answers on the compatability of the marelli with the XR700/fireball setup. One well known shop said no problem, just don't run the condenser. Another shop said to throw the xr700 unit away and run pertronix but made no mention of its compatibility with a marelli dist. I realize that I will ultimately have to upgrade to a bosch dist down the line, but the marelli is in great shape for now and I'd rather use the money 'saved' towards other repairs. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Never mind. I spoke with Crane yesterday and they overnighted the necessary parts to make the HI6s Fireball/XR700 setup work with the marelli dist.
Overnight shipping cost more than the parts. Will report back on monday with results.

There is a decent diagram on the pelican main page for the stock car.
What is the number on the bosch distributor? It's on the side. The Marelli is a museum piece, do not use it. The XR700 and the Pertronix, I would skip, a lot of guys love these but points work fine, can be diagnosed without an oscilloscope and are cheaper. Use the factory CDI. I posted the diagram on how I did it on my '66 (also a car that came stock with kettering igntion) here: Before there was BHKZ: SWB engine electrics Chromed coil? I would get a Bosch blue coil or an MSD high vibration blaster coil, the cylindrical kind.
